Health and beauty powerhouse Superdrug intends to open dozens of new shops, creating 600 jobs.
Superdrug will add 25 “best in class” branches this year, following a a 25% sales uplift in its top 100 largest stores last year.
The retailer said the openings are part of a “continued drive to elevate customer discovery and experience”, and would be concentrated on destination locations and retail parks.
The first of the new shops opened at the end of last month in Briggate, Leeds. New branches are slated for Bristol’s Cribbs Causeway, Guernsey, and an extension is planned in Sheffield’s Meadowhall.
Superdrug said: “Sites have been specially designed to immerse, inform, and engage customers within a physical store environment.”
The retailer will also refurbish 65 branches and extend some shops by between 50% and 100%.
Superdrug property director Nigel Duxbury said: “We want everyone who enters Superdrug to feel an elevated customer experience. For us, this is not about a quick and easy purchase, it is about engaging customers with added extras that truly enrich their everyday lives.
“We can see from our sales last year that investing in and increasing the number of large format stores in our estate allows us to accelerate our bricks-and-mortar strategy, so that we can bring the bigger and better shopping experience to even more communities.”
