As retailers across the high street gear up for their biggest weekend of the year, etailers would traditionally be counting up the Christmas takings. But not this year, as many online players are busy promoting their guaranteed delivery options to make sure that special gift is ready under the tree come Christmas morning.
Etail giant Amazon is promising Christmas Eve delivery for products ordered before 9.30am that morning, while Aurora Fashions, owner of Oasis, Warehouse and Coast, has pushed the boundaries even further, offering same day deliver for orders up to 12pm on December 24. It is also still running its 90 minute fulfilment option on orders made up to 3pm on Christmas Eve.
They are not alone. Asos is delivering in time for Christmas Day for orders made up to 11.59pm on the 23rd and Littlewoods and Very owner Shop Direct is guaranteeing delivery on purchases made up to 10pm on the 23rd.
Concerns over that special gift arriving in time has traditionally created a natural mid December cut-off to online Christmas orders - but that is changing.
So called ‘Cyber Monday’ was due to fall on December 3 this year, but etailers such as Asos said the following week was even busier and there has been no sign of this waning. A major factor has been the growing confidence in delivery speed and reliability.
And with a growing number of “Christmas delivery guarantees” taking prominence on retailers’ website, it may not just be the high streets tills that are ringing on ‘Panic Saturday’.
