Music retailer Rough Trade has opened its largest store in Liverpool with a dedicated space for live performances as well as a range of products.
The store is located on Hanover Street and marks the sixth Rough Trade store in the UK following three openings in London, one in Bristol and one in Nottingham. A seventh store is due to launch on London’s Denmark Street soon.
The 6,500 sq ft space spans two floors, which includes the brand’s record store and cafe on the ground floor, with the venue space for live music taking up the first floor.
The venue space can fit up to 290 people and has a fully functioning bar on the same floor.
The design of the new store was created by architects R2A and they worked closely with supplier Light Forms to meet the brief of a “striking” lighting theme with a “dramatic impact”.
Light Forms supplied adaptable and flexible fixtures to meet the changing needs of the space. The lighting highlights products to turn the customers attention to vinyls and merchandise, while the colour-changing spotlights set the stage for live performances.
Rough Trade managing director Lawrence Montgomery said: “We have been so thrilled to expand Rough Trade into Liverpool, which is a fantastic city known for its musical heritage. The modern, minimalist design from R2A reflects our brand ethos and ensures that the space focuses purely on the music, while the dimmed and dramatic lighting from Light Forms has a powerful impact in setting the stage.
“The design allows the location to transform from a store into a premium music performance stage, meeting our aim of Rough Trade Liverpool becoming a central hub for music fans.”
