Innovation of the Week is a subscriber-only series highlighting retail initiatives that have caught the eye of our team. Every week, we will bring you new ideas and case studies that link to the trends in our Retail Horizon 2024 reports – across consumer, technology, sustainability, and economy, policy and industry.

What is it?

Global fashion retailer Reiss has announced a new partnership with AI-powered platform Compare Ethics to measure and verify its sustainability credentials.

The AI platform uses advanced algorithms to evaluate and rank the quality of green claims against regulatory requirements, suggesting actionable steps for the business to follow to achieve full compliance.

Why does it matter?

Using AI as a tool will allow Reiss to verify whether it is meeting its green claims and give new reassurance to shoppers. The platform will verify between three and 14 data points for every sustainability claim made by Reiss, ensuring compliance with all regulations and reducing internal workload.

“We can communicate our responsible sourcing achievements to our customers with total confidence and demonstrate our progress within responsible sourcing and ESG. We are delighted to be working with the organisation to verify our green claims”

Sally-Anne Newson, chief customer officer, Reiss

Strategic implications

Leveraging AI as a benchmarking tool can help retailers easily assess compliance and progress in complex areas, such as sustainability, where a lot of data is involved. This technology can assist companies in quickly gaining knowledge and expertise as they accelerate ESG programmes.
